Haida Gwaii’s only bespoke floating ecolodge, Ocean House will soon boast a new land-based address.

Our intimate property, which is expanding from 12 to 22 rooms, will soon move from its current location in Stads K’uns GawGa Peel Inlet to a pristine, protected bay on Xaaydaga Gwaay.yaay linaGwaay Graham Island’s northern tip; near the village of Gaw Tlagee Old Massett, Tlaga Gawtlaas New Town. This new setting will provide our guests with direct access to the wild expanse of Naikoon Provincial Park, as well as the authentic Haida arts and culture experiences available in Masset and the neighbouring communities.

TLAGA GAWTLAAS NEW TOWN: A Charming Northern Village

Located on Gaw Kaahlii Masset Inlet, the village of Tlaga Gawtlaas rests near three of the area’s 11 ancient Xaayda Haida sites. Since time immemorial, the inlet and surrounding land was an important Indigenous trading centre. Today, the region is home to many prominent Haida artists and master carvers, whose jewellery, paintings, tapestries, bead work and carvings can be found in Gaw Tlagee's Old Massett's gift shops and galleries.

Masset: Your Gateway to Outdoor Adventure

Just north of Tlaga Gawtlaas New Town, the quaint community of Masset is one of Xaayda Gwaay.yaay Haida Gwaii’s top gateways for wilderness adventures. Pacific halibut and wild spring salmon are plentiful in the waters surrounding Xaayda Gwaay.yaay Linagwaay Graham Island; and the local angling opportunities are world-renowned. Boat charters offering cultural sight-seeing excursions are also available from the village’s bustling harbour. Masset’s Delkatla Wildlife Sanctuary is another sought-after natural attraction. The sprawling protected wetland is a habitat for sandhill cranes and an important stopover for migratory birds.

Naikoon Provincial Park: A Dramatic Scenic Wonderland

Naikoon Provincial Park is a wild coastal expanse comprised of beaches, wetlands, sand dunes, lakes and rainforest. North Beach, the largest stretch of beachfront in the park, offers sweeping ocean views, and is becoming increasingly popular spot for surfing, kayaking and paddleboarding; with tours and lessons available from local guides. The trailhead for the iconic Tow Hill viewpoint, one of the park’s scenic hiking trails, is accessed from North Beach as well.

Rooms at Ocean House may be reserved on a nightly basis, and guests can choose from the resort’s collection of locally-guided à la carte activities to better explore the area’s rich heritage and multitude of authentic eco-cultural adventures.
