Proud To Be Authentic Indigenous

AN AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE | VERIFIED BY INDIGENOUS TOURISM BC

The Haida House at Tllaal is Authentic Indigenous designated, and couldn't be more proud!

Situated on the rugged and remote northern coast of British Columbia, Xaayda Gwaay.yaay Haida Gwaii is an ancient archipelago teeming with majestic rainforests, wildlife and Haida traditional sites. Towards the east, along the banks of the leisurely flowing Tlell River, sits our stunning property Haida House at Tllaal, boasting 21 hectares where visitors can explore the history and culture of Haida Gwaii. Owned and operated by the Haida Nation via HaiCo, Haida House at Tllaal has been a longtime member of Indigenous Tourism BC’s Authentic Indigenous Program, a prestigious designation granted to businesses that offer compelling Indigenous tourism experiences to visitors from around the world.

Once you arrive at the Haida House at Tllaal, you will be greeted by lush grounds boasting leafy forest trails, an abundant fruit orchard, a carving shed, beautiful gardens and greenhouses. Throughout your stay, you can experience authentic local life, from regionally inspired cuisine prepared by our talented chefs to immersive eco-adventures led by our cultural interpreters. Inspired by the Haida concept of Yahguudang (respect for all living things), we respect the land and animals in everything we do – in fact, Haida House at Tllaal has earned Sustainable Tourism Gold Certification for maintaining the highest degree of environmental standards.

Our all-inclusive packages are available for three, four or seven nights, and combine tranquil accommodation in the main lodge with guided tours of the land and water; visits with local weavers and carvers; tide- and farm-to-table culinary journeys; and easy hikes to ancient village sites. In 2020, we are excited to open 12 new oceanside cabins, where guests can experience and even more intimate stay in Haida Gwaii. Each two-bedroom cabin pays homage to Haida Gwaii’s natural and cultural surroundings through architecture, interior design and décor, and includes private hot tub, mini-kitchen, indoor/outdoor shower and a panoramic beach view.

Indigenous Tourism BC’s Authentic Indigenous designation helps travellers easily identify and support Indigenous businesses that offer quality cultural experiences, revitalize and preserve Indigenous cultures and languages, and protect the environment.

We can’t wait for you to visit and experience authentic Xaayda Gwaay.yaay Haida Gwaii with us.
